Back again for another installment of all the things I love on the internet. Do you have any exciting/interesting internet things you love? Share in the comments!
Okay it's on Netflix, so it counts. This PBS show, The Great British Baking Show, has everything I love: British people, baking, competition, education, jokes. My mom's side of the family is very British, and a huge reason I got into baking was because of recipes she and my grandmother would make. This show features a lot of British desserts that I grew up eating and the competitors are so sweet and genuine. I powered through the first season in a week, and I plan on baking all of the desserts they make on the show. Season 2 is on PBS right now.
I don't know how I heard of this podcast, but it was saved in my downloaded folder so I started listening. I was thoroughly freaked out. It's an investigative piece about a town of people that completely vanished. After listening to the first episode I visited their website and realized that it's a fictional podcast, focused on storytelling. So I felt pretty stupid. Theres only 3 episodes right now, but they're a perfect way to get in the halloween spirit. Spooky, great storytelling with a high production value. This is the kind of content I love to support. Definitely worth a listen.
I. Love. This. Blog.
It's a cooking blog, but it's hilarious and very well written. I love Billy's style and I'm inspired by the things he creates all the time. He's also got a new cookbook out, which is even more inspiring. I love seeing my favorite bloggers succeed outside of the internet, and I especially love that most of them continue to stay loyal to the online community. Check out the blog here.
I'm sure you've heard of periscope, but if you haven't its a live broadcasting/streaming app that anyone can join. Mostly a lot of celebrities use it as a way to vlog in real time, but I'm going to try using it this weekend while I bake. I'm going to live stream while I bake a jelly roll cake, which coincidentally was the first challenge on The Great British Baking Show.
I plan on doing this on Sunday, November 1st which is the day after Halloween and the ending of Daylight Savings Time. I'm thinking I'll start around 11am, so feel free to join me (virtually) in the kitchen while you nurse your halloween hangover. You'll be able to ask me questions and also listen to me while I talk to myself. This is something new for me to try out, it should be fun!
You can find and join Periscope on the app store for ios and android. You can also follow me at the username @josievorenkamp.
I mean, obviously.
