Have you ever heard the song "Radio" by Lana Del Rey? The chorus is my favorite part because she says, "Now my life is sweet like cinnamon." And I feel like no other set of words describes my life better.
Not just because of how happy I've been lately. But mostly because of how much I love the taste of cinnamon. Pairing it with sugar, like in a snickerdoodle? Oh man, nothing makes me happier. Soaking it with some almonds and sugar, then blending it up and serving it cold like in horchata? Even better. Injecting it directly into my veins like some weird drug/sugar addict? Not out of the realm of possibility for me.
And I know when you think of soft pretzels that you think of the kind that are buttery and covered in salt. This recipe works for that kind too, just top with course sea salt at the end instead of the cinnamon and sugar mixture. Oh and dip them in melted butter once they come out of the oven. Then just cover yourself in butter because why not.
These dessert pretzels are yummy, and fairly easy to make. I know I say that about everything, but this was my first time making a rising dough, and I still found the recipe to be straight forward. The finished products reminded me of the pretzel day episode of the office, except I didn't have to wait in line forever to get just one. Instead it took about 2 hours and then I had six soft pretzels available for my immediate consumption. This is living. This is pretzel day.
They look like little delicious hearts. You can see that I experimented with the shapes a little. I also had a chance to make a test batch of these for two of my friends, these are definitely a crowd pleaser.
Recipe slightly adapted from The Food Network.
