Alright, I've finally done it. I've taken my love of movies, writing about movies, talking about movies, and also my love of Tom Hanks, and smashed them all together to create something really exciting.
That's right, I started a podcast! Now I know this is a deviation from your regularly scheduled content, but if you've been here since the beginning you KNOW how much I love Tom Hanks. So it only seemed natural that I'd start a podcast where I can talk all about his movies.
The show is called Talkin' Tom: A Pod Hanks Tomcast and I host it along with my friend Daniel. Twice a month we get together and watch a Tom Hanks movie, chronologically. It's funny, smart and silly, neither of us are professional film critics so it's not like we take ourselves to seriously. Basically it's an excuse for us to watch movies together, but also connect with a wider audience. We know we're not the only two people in the world to love Tom Hanks and all his movies, we're just the first two crazy people to dedicate a podcast to his entire body of work.
I can't even begin to tell you how exciting and rewarding this process has been. I feel the same way I did when I started this blog, like I once again have a new creative outlet that I can pour my heart and soul into. We got a new logo made as well as a theme song, and it all feels so real finally! I've always loved that feeling I get when an idea I have becomes a legitimate (somewhat) tangible thing. This new show has been a labor of love for me and I couldn't be happier.
So you're probably wondering why I decided to make vegan ice cream sundaes during the fall/winter, and also the day before Thanksgiving. I took my main inspiration from one of my favorite Tom Hanks movies, BIG. There's a highly gif-able scene in the movie, where Tom eats an ice cream sundae and rolls the cherry around on his tongue, making a huge mess. That's why I made these sundaes.
I assembled these vegan ice cream sundaes with a few things.
- Nada Moo Vegan Ice Cream in Vanil-ahhhh flavor
- Coconut Whipping Cream from Trader Joes
- Morello Cherries from Trader Joes
- Salted Hot Fudge Sauce by Oh Lady Cakes
I know it's not exactly a recipe, but these vegan ice cream sundaes are so perfect to throw together that I couldn't resist taking photos and posting them here. That salted hot fudge sauce is literally to die for and the most PERFECT texture. I'm hoping that with each new episode I can post a quick/simple recipe that coincides with the movie we're watching. Got any ideas for Splash?
You can listen to the first episode of the show on Apple Podcasts (hopefully in the next day or two), Soundcloud, or pretty much anywhere else you find your podcasts. We've also got a snazzy new website up that I'd love for you to check out!
